Spoiler alert - This article reveals details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion

Over the course of the show, audiences saw eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all tension.

However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first celebrity edition emerged triumphant.

From 19 contestants, just a handful were left standing: Traitors and loyal players competing for the prize.

Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.

In the end, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a shocking result that broke the internet and made him tearful.

"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."

"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "It's all right."

Social media immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.

"There could not have been a better conclusion," stated another, while someone else described it as "the TV moment of the year."

The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount reaching £87,500.

Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.

But his win still left the nation surprised, according to entertainment reporters.

"The thought of him, of all people, executing a masterclass in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining a straight face through his comedy routines."

During follow-up conversations, the other contestants explained why no one had ever really suspected him.

"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.

"The majority didn't target him because how does one vote for someone who is so charming?" asked a different contestant.

Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his experience with the program.

"I want to do it again... I doubt it would work a second time!"

Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on the network. There was an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the morning gathering.

There was particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' experience in the game.

True to form, the comedian provided some of the most memorable lines.

"To be honest, I started this game as something of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends under the bus, I've murdered beloved figures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I thought."

Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.

In the beginning of the finale, various contestants appeared to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.

Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.

But he was outstyled by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.

Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.

This task saw them destroying images of former contestants. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit in the head multiple times by the lid of a substantial container.

Soon after, it was time for the roundtable.

Two traitors made a pact in advance, pledging to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to betray him," stated one, while their partner just giggled.

And one did stick to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.

The remaining traitor looked like he was in a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."

Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.

"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.

"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," posted a different viewer.

But there was little opportunity to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the endgame - which was the moment everyone anticipated.

The final four stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.

A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.

"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute in that manner," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, we learned that when they message, the betrayed player calls the other by a betrayer's name.

Ultimately, only three contestants were still competing: the final trio.

One player, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the third, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor was the winner.

According to commentators, the scene where remaining contestants comforted the champion was "compelling television". "I anticipate it will be a contender for memorable moment at next year's awards," they commented.

Happily, the champion soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.

"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and now I stand a winner," he said.

He also made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the final scene and making contact.

"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.

The recent episodes of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. And we will miss it.
